The Hidden Need

The Foundation’s Hidden Need Survey

“Whilst many people believe Berkshire is an affluent area, each unitary authority faces a number of real and, sometimes, hidden problems. The Foundation’s Hidden Need Survey highlights the key areas of concern in each of the areas. This is important because an in-depth knowledge of the high levels of deprivation that exist within Berkshire’s six unitary authorities will better inform our grant making policy.”

The Hon. Mrs Bayliss JP, Lord Lieutenant The Royal County of Berkshire and President of Berkshire Community Foundation

In order to determine a focus for the grant decisions, and to establish priorities where necessary, it is vital to understand the social character of the local communities and their needs. Donors also appreciate the access to the knowledge that Berkshire Community Foundation is able to share with them so that they may be assured of the need and direction for their philanthropy. In such an affluent county as the Royal County of Berkshire, such needs are often very obscured and so Berkshire Community Foundation has once again commissioned a specific study to research and highlight the local indices and areas of deprivation, thus refining and defining their charitable direction.
